Edward Carpenter Collection, Archives & Local Studies, Sheffield City Libraries: The Edward Carpenter Collection is held by Archives and Local Studies, Sheffield City Libraries. Its website is detailed and includes information across its many manuscript collections. Obviously, these are focused on papers and collections with particular local importance. See https://www.sheffield.gov.uk/libraries/archives-and-local-studies/collections

The Edward Carpenter Collection itself is a very large one, composed by Carpenter’s library of books and pamphlets as well as letters from family, friends, publishers and colleagues across the wide range of activities and causes he was involved in. A microfilm of the collection including Olive Schreiner’s letters to Carpenter is available from Adam Matthews Publications, and it is this that the project has worked from.

There is a useful overviewing guide to the collection on the website and a finding aid can be consulted in situ.

The Edward Carpenter Collection can be viewed on the Sheffield City Libraries website via https://www.sheffield.gov.uk/libraries/archives-and-local-studies/collections/edward-carpenter-collection.html
