International Feminist Networks

The letters in the ‘International Feminist Networks’ collection include the visit of International Woman Suffrage Association members Carrie Chapman Catt and Aletta Jacobs to South Africa and Schreiner’s strictures about Catt meddling in South African matters by supporting a racially-based franchise. They also cover Schreiner's later friendships with Aletta Jacobs, Jane Addams, Catherine Marshall and other IWSA members.

Later letters also comment on her involvement with the Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom and intention to have been at the meeting at The Hague at which it was formed. These letters also cover a Lyceum Club dinner thrown for Schreiner, and her connections with Dora Montefiore, the Pethick-Lawrences, Catherine Marshall, and also the British Dominions Women’s Suffrage Union. Letters regarding the period of women’s suffrage activity in South Africa will be found in the ‘'Woman Question' & Enfranchisement’ collection.
