Joyce Newton Thompson
Joyce Newton Thompson (nee Nettelfold) (1893 - 1978) was born in London, and as Joyce Nettelfold became an active member of the Women’s Social and Political Union, including acting as one of Emmeline Pankhurst’s bodyguards. She married Cyril Newton Thompson in February 1917 and in 1919 they settled in Cape Town where she became involved in social welfare work.
