E. Ray Lankester
Sir (Edwin) Ray Lankester (1847-1929) was a British zoologist who also took an interest in social matters and in particular the extent to which human behaviour was innate or the result of social conditioning. There is a single letter from Schreiner to Lankester in the form of a hand-written copy made by Havelock Ellis, for reasons unknown. However, in this letter, dated 31 January 1886, Schreiner powerfully sets out at considerable length her views about the relationship between men and women and about marriage in particular.
