Miss Battie was a typist who Schreiner approached to type some of her manuscripts. No further information is known about her, and there is only one extant letter to her from Schreiner, which interestingly raises the issue of confidentiality concerning typed matter, a new concern because of the then recent ‘invention’ of the professional typist.
