Mrs Kriel

Mrs Kriel ran a boarding house at Beaufort West where Schreiner stayed for a time in 1900 during the South African War, and then again in 1903. In a letter to Isie Smuts of 1903, Schreiner commented that Mrs Kriel was the sister of the South African War commando and scout Danie Theron, who became a nationalist hero because of his exploits.
