Mrs Earle

(Maria) Theresa Earle nee Villiers (1836 - 1925) was a British horticulturist and the sister of Elizabeth Villiers (who became Lady Loch) and Edith Villiers, who married Robert Bulwer-Lytton and was the mother of Schreiner’s close friend Constance Lytton. Theresa Villiers married Captain Charles William Earle (c.1828 - 1897) in 1864, and they had three sons. Schreiner referred to Mrs Earle in a 1907 letter to Edward Carpenter as a “very dear & remarkable friend” and also as “a grand old Radical.”
