Dr J Henry Philpot

Dr J.H. Philpot was a prominent London physician and married to Isaline Philpot. Schreiner came to know the Philpots in London during the 1880s and was perhaps introduced to them by Elisabeth Cobb. She eventually came to intensely dislike Isaline Philpot’s gossiping and was suspicious of the nature of her later friendship with Cronwright-Schreiner. However, she commented in a 1913 letter to Cronwright-Schreiner that while she would prefer not to see Mrs Philpot and would only do if constrained by ‘politeness’, “Dear noble old Philpot I should always be glad to see.”
