Dear Friend
I just love the photographs. Of course I would like you will broad
smile on! That is you! I always think of you so. Your smile is a kind
of revelation of your inner-self, as though a door suddenly open & a
light flashed out, - & then when the smile end it closes again, but
one knows what one has seen!
It is so nice to have your two dear faces together. It is so beautiful
that I am able to love you both so that my love for one never seems
interrupted by my love for the other, & I know you both love me. I
don’t mind Miss Molteno’s face being not smiling because I always
think of her with just the look she has in that side-face picture. Its
just a perfect picture of hers: yours is very good but it could be
more you. The full faced one looks so sad, & almost as though a great
weight were resting on you.
// Hasn’t this been a terrible for murder dis-covery in Cape Town?
As far as one can judge the man seems to have killed ten or twelve
people at least at different times including his father & mother. He
lives quite near to my brother Will’s.
My heart has been very bad for a week I’ve had to be lying down all
the time except when I got up to cook a little, but today it’s
better, & its such a lovely day, the first cool, clear, fresh day
we’ve had for months & one rejoices so in it.
