4 My dear old sister

6 I would have written to you long ago, but have not been very much up
7to letter writing since I came back from Town. I expect you have
8having a happy time at St James, & hope there hasn’t been any touch
9of the terrible enemy asthma.

11 We have had marvellous hot weather here. "The oldest inhabitant" says
12they have never known anything like it here, but soon our beautiful
13cold winter will be coming.

15 I got a wire from dear old General Butler this morning, who said he
16was going out to spend the evening with Will.

18 I suppose it will be long before we meet again as every one says
19parliament will not open, till ^before^ June this year.

21^Drop me a line to tell me how it goes with you all. I’ve not had one
22word of news of any of you since I I left Cape Town. ^

27 We shall have been married twelve years on the 24 of this month! How
