The Project is grateful to Manuscripts and Archives, University of Cape Town, for kindly allowing us to transcribe this Olive Schreiner letter, which is part of its Manuscripts and Archives Collections. The month and year have been written on this letter in an unknown hand. Schreiner was resident in Hanover from September 1900 to October 1907, after 1902 with visits, sometimes fairly lengthy, elsewhere.

Dear Mrs Murray

I fear there’s been some misunderstanding. I thought when we parted
it was left to be arranged at some future time when we were to meet.
My brother told me on Monday night you’d asked if I could come on
Wednesday, but I made sure he’d told you how ill I was. I got up
yesterday afternoon but don’t think I shall be able to make any
appointments for some time.

All good wishes for the New Year. I had such a dear long letter from
Emily Hobhouse this week.

Yours ever
