My dear Friend

I am still here. I was so go glad of your letter & to hear you were
perhaps going to see Isabella. I have not been to see Mrs Murray yet.
I have only been able to go out a few times since I came to Cape Town.
But I am better the last week & shall perhaps be able to get out. The
doctors say my heart is more enlarged than it was & has pressed the
stomach quite out of its place too, so I can’t expect to be very
spry! Why I am so much better when I am lying down is that heart is
always distended with blood, but that when I lie down it has less work
in pumping it.

^Cron has just gone up to Hanover for ten days. Nothing is doing in
parliament. Dear old Malan & his wife came to see me last night as
Anna Purcell had to take them I was not well. It was so nice to see
them. This is only one Malan in South Africa. The more I see him the
more I trust him politically. ^
