6 It was a terrible blow to me to get Miss Molteno’s note just now. My
7only hope is that if you had left by the steamer you first meant you
8would still have been just a few days too late. I hope this because I
9know how terrible will be to you the thought that if you had left by
10it might still have seen her. I keep trying to reckon out. I think it
11was the Friday before I left town you were first to have left. Oh if
12you could only have seen her before the end. I think it must have been
13been the sense of this coming that has weighed on you so lately & made
14you feel so restless. You know it was always such a comfort to me that
15I did go down to Cape Town to see my mother, that time I felt suddenly
16I must go from Uitkyk. I am wanting another note from Miss Molteno so
17to know if she is well enough really to go with you on Wednesday
