My dear Friend

It’s quite a fine afternoon, the sun shining a little. I am getting
my house in order at last. In two days it will be all right. My dear
little Kaffir is so nice. He is sitting out in the sun now trying to
sun himself behind a heap of stones where it’s a bit sheltered. Cron
will be returning next Wednesday likely from Johannesburg. I do hope
the change to Houw Hoek will do Miss Molteno good. Cape Town & the
coast certainly does not suit her. I am often thinking about your
plans: to take a whole farm would perhaps tie you too much if you have
so often to go to England. A nice house at Nels Poort seems to me
really the thing that would answer most. You must not be too much
alone & far from others. Mrs Van Zyl will have a room to spare likely
after the end of this month, but you would feel the cold terribly,
there being no fireplaces in the bedrooms. Thinking all over I think
you had better put off your coming here till it is a little warmer. If
you came now you would only spend a couple of days I know. If you came
later you might spend a month. In September & October the weather here
is like Paradise cold & stimulating with out much frost, though we
still have it sharp at night. Oh it is so nice to be getting my house
a little neat. But I’m going to try & let things go & make a little
time for writing. I & won’t let people here depress me. I’ll just
let them go & not care. If one once get to that point everything is
easy. One must just realize that now the war is over there is no bond
of sympathy between one & them, & be content. It’s sad, but so are
many things in life one has just to put a little bit of deadness on.

Good bye, dear sweet friend the thought of you two is always a joy to me.
