Dear Mrs Solly

I have never yet written to tell you how sweet I felt your kind
invitation to my husband & myself to pass the night at your farm on
our way to Caledon We did not go after all: He was able to stay in
Cape Town, & I stayed on here at this delightful farm I spent 10 days
in Cape Town with dear Anna Purcell & hoped much you might be coming
to town while I was there.

It has been so delightful to see some of my friends again. The life at
Hanover is strangely lonely. Miss Molteno & Miss Grene have been
staying here with me for some time, but left last Wednesday for Port
Elizabeth. We have been nearly two months here together. It has been a
beautiful thing to have them. I think there is nothing more untrue
than the saying that human beings grow smaller & meaner as you know
more of them. I think the real beauty of the best human creatures is
never visible till one comes absolutely close to them for a long time.

I hope some day I shall have an opportunity of seeing more of you

Yours very sincerely
Olive Schreiner
