Dear Fan

Did you get the list for Danie Theron I sent to you. Please return to
me as I want to try & collect a little here before I send it up to
Pretoria. I see Milner says has no objection to the monument but wants
to know what the inscription is to be.

I am sending down by today’s train a little buck to Cron, & I have
asked him to give you half. Could you send down for it to his
mother’s as I do not think they keep a boy whom they could send up
with it.

I am staying on here at Uitkijk still. It is a very nice farm, the Le
Roux are nice kind people. Two of Mrs Le Roux’s brother’s were
killed in the war fighting on the Transvaal side.

Neta & the mierkats are with me, but Cron has Ollie with him. Do you
think Cron is looking very tired & old? Please tell write me a nice
long letter such as you can write, & tell me all the bits of news I
want to hear about the children & you all.

How do you think mother looking. Ettie thinks she is fading fast, & in
spite of the ?rain I must try to come down to see her for two days in
July or August.

Please write me a real nice letter

I saw Miss Emily Hobhouse in Beaufort. She stopped to spend two days
with me there. How utterly impossible it is for the best English
people to realize what it is we upcountry South Africans are thinking
& feeling!
