Legend
The Project is grateful to Manuscripts and Archives, University of Cape Town, for kindly allowing us to transcribe this Olive Schreiner letter, which is part of its Manuscripts and Archives Collections. The year has been written on this letter in an unknown hand. The three Hanover men who were executed were shot in late March 1901. Schreiner was resident in Hanover from September 1900 to October 1907, after 1902 with visits, sometimes fairly lengthy, elsewhere. The name of the addressee is indicated by salutation.

3 Please send the enclosed to Mrs Roos. Perhaps some of the girls you
4know at the Cape might knit some little socks or jackets for the Baby.
5I wish so much I could even now go to de Aar & have a talk with the
6general there. If England could only realize what she is doing. They
7have killed ?Nieaber, but he has left five little sons, & the baby who
8is coming may be a 6th.
