Dear Fan
I was so glad to get your note & hear things are all going well with
you; from Cron’s account of the extreme heat I should say you were
very glad to be at Kalk Bay. Cron writes me he is soon going so spend
a week with the Purcells so he will see something of you & be able to
give me some news of you all. Little Neta nearly died yesterday she
was bitten either by a snake or a "Getje" while scratching in a hole
at the side of the house. I gave her a large dose of strychnine &
poured brandy down her throat; but I thought she would die last night.
However she is better today though still ill.
I hope you are feeling quite fit again, dear old Sis. Love to my dear
old brother & all of you.
Love to all
Your little sis

I’ve got a lot of ^bush^ tea here, so shan’t want any more. I’m so
sorry I gave so much trouble but Mrs ?Ensor told me one could get it
at any shop in Swellendam & she always got her’s there as it was
cheaper & fresher. One can get it at all the shops here; but its very
old & 6d a pound. Give my love to Hannie & all the friends. I never
believed those ridiculous stories about your ^brother^: I believe
nothing any more. I thank Ursie for her letter. She’s got on
wonderfully with her writing. It’s funny to think you are all still
living in the world, like you used to.
