Dear Fan,

I enclose part of Cron’s last letter. Please return it carefully
when read as I want to keep it. I can fancy I see Cron & Kier at Kirk
Alloway. Gi I haven’t had a letter from you for three weeks. I
mention this just in case you may have written & I not got it. I can

quite understand your not being able to write. I can’t. But I keep
my spirits up "Das aanhou de ?ven." (Can you read my Dutch spelling?)

Love to all the dear little ones, & my old brother. I’m glad the
ministry is out, but sorry it didn’t go out 7 months ago. We shall
fight the progressives better as an opposition.

^Private news^ I wrote to Sauer & Merriman about the report that they
were approaching Sievewright. Merriman wrote me an answer which
convinces me that it is perfectly untrue as regards Merriman, &
probably untrue as regards Sauer: but of Hofmeyr it is true. It is all
Hofmeyr. But if only the other men will stand out Hofmeyr can’t
force him back. Show this to Will.

will get it from you & have an enlarged photo taken I am leaving on
Tuesday the 25th for Beaufort West my address will then be
