Dear Laddie

I’m stone broke, so am going down to the dear old Kowie for a few
days. It seems there is never a letter coming for me again - & all my
work lies unfinished. Rudyard Kippling & his father called this
morning, he’s a real man, a most lovable little human creature.

Thank you for your letter, dear. unreadable Slowly & slowly Rhodes
will play out till there’s nothing of him left; "Small & more small,
And beautifully less." People don’t calculate on the strength of the
old Dutch party in this country, because they don’t talk. The
jingoes have been doing all the talk when it comes to voting, its
possible we may be stronger than is thought.

Good bye dear Laddie. Mr Lloyd, arrives from Johannesburg today to
spend a few days with us. I think we shall leave on Monday the 4th for
the Kowie & stay there as long as my chest lets us.

^PS The doctor says I must not go to the Kowie, so I shall likely go to
Johannesburg for a few days. I think I shall go to Pretoria & see Oom Paul.
I shall go & see the Reitzes too. My address will be c/o Rev J.T.
