Dear Jessy

I hope you had a real good time in Pretoria. I’m wishing I could see
you; I don’t like letter writing. Mr Innes seems making a splendid
stand. I wish he could have seen his way clear to support Merriman
but I have never had any doubt that the stand he does make he will
stand by.

I am very well & very happy in my personal life. Cron & I seem to grow
closer together every week we are together – the only terrible thing
is the thought we shall some day have to part forever.

I am sending you a letter I got from a lady in England the other day.
She seemed to me when I stayed with them as a boarder a most sweet
refined little woman; but I don’t know a very much of her. She had a
school & I took rooms in her house, but I found the pianos too noisy.

I am too busy to come down to Cape Town this winter, & I would not
come down if I could. There is too much bitterness & hatred in the air!!
Aren’t you tired of it all, dear?

We’ve got a little dog an Irish terrier who’s a great pleasure to
us; & Cron & I read & write all day & I cook - that’s all we do so
there’s no news. I’ve got a dear little Kaffir boy that I’m very
fond of.

Good bye dear
