My darling Master Will
I’ve just remembered it was your birthday this week. I send you a
I bath here in the great pool every day, & the spring right out of the
water sometimes quite close to me. I will send you a picture of the
pool & Uncle Cron & myself standing by it. You are getting a very old
man, eight years now. I remember my eighth birthday very well. Mother
gave me a wax doll, & little Joseph Veritz ate all the wax off it's
face about ten minutes after I got it. I hope no misfortune overtook
you on your birthday. Did you have a party.
Give my love to all cousin Keetje’s children when you see them, & to
Dot & my Ollie boy. Tell him his Auntie will give him a little tame
"bokkie" to play with if he comes to see her. Uncle Cron sends his
love to you; he says he wishes we had all of you children here. I
count the goats in & out of the kraal every morning
^& every evening, but its not very easy to count them right they run
about so: the sheep are much easier. I hope you are getting on well
with your lessons old man. ^
Your little auntie
