Thanks for thy letter. I am so glad the little ones are coming quite
round, & the warm sunshine will soon send baby on. It has been a hard
fight for our little one just at her start, & I fear will make her
very sensitive for a year or more. If I were you even when the weather
gets warmer, I would still light the stove at night, so that the room
may be warm in the early morning. Its that time that tries the lungs.
Thanks dear, for your sweet offer to send the little ones to see me.
But I think I should feel more at rest if they didn’t come. Now Dot
& Will go to school they might get measles there, & yet I should
always feel unhappy about it, if they had been. I know you won’t
misunderstand & think I don’t want to see them, dear.

I am going out to Sea Point tomorrow to Arthur’s Seat. Stevenson
will have me go there: he’s been so good & kind; he’s so different
from most other doctor's he seems to care for your health all round.

I am so sorry to hear of poor ?Grisbert Reitz. It seems too hard for
them. I hope all this terrible time of nursing & anxiety has not told
on you. You ought to get away to Swellendam or some where for a change
with the children when baby is fit. Theo Kate & Will are flourishing.
Dear old Theo wanted to go up the mountain on horseback tomorrow, & I
had hoped I should be strong enough to go to, but going to Sea Point
yesterday has knocked me up, so much that I’m lying down today. Tell
little Will I’ve got a funny little curiosity for him, he must guess
what it is till Monday when I send it him. It’s animal & vegetable
kingdoms mixed, its something that grows on a tree & something that
lives, mixed.

I’m afraid its been very hard for poor old Will going about his work
with all the anxiety of the childrens illness on his mind.

Good bye, dear
