This letter has been dated with reference to Schreiner’s weekend visit to the Pethick-Lawrence’s country house in September 1918. Schreiner was resident at Porchester Place from early April 1917 until August 1920, when she left Britain for South Africa.

5Thank you so much for all the pleasure I had last night. I would give
6anything to go on Sunday, but have just remembered an engage-ment for
7Sunday after noon. Shall try to get out on a bus to Richmond in the
8morning, just to see the green.
