The Project is grateful to the Harry Ransom Humanities Research Center, the University of Texas at Austin, for kindly allowing us to transcribe this Olive Schreiner letter, which is part of its Manuscript Collections. This letter is on printed headed embossed notepaper and includes two separate letters on the same folded piece of paper. The letter by Olive Schreiner to Unwin is on the fourth side of the folded paper, following the covering note by Cronwright-Schreiner acting as her amanuensis or secretary. The insertion ‘Over’ and the remainder of the letter is in Schreiner’s hand-writing.

Dear Mr Unwin,

With this I return, corrected, the proofs which came this morning.

I notice that the portions of the book you send each day correspond
with the galleys ^to be corrected^. You will of course see that the
corrections are made ^in the book^ to correspond with those I make ^on
the proofs^ each day; and; before you go to press, send me Mrs
Schreiner the complete set of final revision. This is very important.

Thanks for the photograph. When you publish it in the book, there must
simply be the word “Photograph” printed under the photogravure:
nothing else.

With kind regards,
Yours very sincerely,
S.C. Cronwright Schreiner

Dear Mr Unwin

I take it for granted I shall see the have ^copies^ the ^from^ proofs now
being corrected, sent to me for final revision; as there might be some
errors.

This of course is absolutely necessary.

Yours sincerely
