The Project is grateful to the Harry Ransom Humanities Research Center, the University of Texas at Austin, for kindly allowing us to transcribe this Olive Schreiner letter, which is part of its Manuscript Collections. This note has been dated by reference to an associated envelope and its postmark, which also provides the address it was sent to. Schreiner was resident in Blandford Square from mid October to mid December 1886.
1Mrs. Weldon has written to say she’s going mad. I must go to St.
2Albans tomorrow. I can’t leave her while she needs me whatever
3she’s done. I won’t be such a little devil to you on Tuesday I’m
4almost mad myself.
8Havelock is your heart so sore & heavy too. And he’s so silent he
9bears it all in quiet!
A version of this letter is in Draznin (1992).
