Schreiner stayed many times in Russell Road, the home of her friend Alice Corthorn, while visiting England. The references to being ‘very pressed’ suggests that it was written during Schreiner’s 1897 visit to the UK, when she stayed at Russell Road in January and February; thus the dating of this letter.
