The date has been written on this letter in an unknown hand. Schreiner was resident at Porchester Place from early April 1917 until August 1920, when she left Britain for South Africa.

5How can I ever thank you & Freddie enough for all your love, &
6sweetness to my darling. Thank you for your sweet beautiful letter. My
7one comfort is to think of all you did for him & that all that could
8be done for him. Dot & Mrs Schreiner unreadable can’t say enough of
9all you did for them & how Mr Schreiner felt about you & Freddie.

11N I went up to Golders Green to see him for the last time he is to be
12buried on Tuesday (tomorrow) at 12 o’clock.

14General Botha & General Smuts & his old friend Sir James Innes want to
15be there & they are sailing for Africa on Wednesday.

17Oh May I’m so grateful to you & Freddie.

19We are all keeping on here. I am staying with Mrs Schreiner till the
20funeral Dear Betty came to see me on Sunday. I am sure she will be at
21the funeral.
