Schreiner was resident at Porchester Place from early April 1917 until August 1920, when she left Britain for South Africa. The final insertion is written on the envelope.

7Thank you for your wonderful present, which came tonight. Alice Greene
8will be here on Tuesday evening & we will have it for supper. I would
9like to roast it; but as I have not any pot I will have to have it
10boiled. I will put some nice stuffing in it, which makes it go further.

12So many happy returns of your wedding day to both of you: I always
13think of your marriage as one of the most satisfactory marriages I
14know. May you be spared long to each other.

16I am glad to hear all has gone so well with Islay. If you should see
17her before you go, give her my love. I am so glad you are having fine
