Dear Betty

Jane Addams & Dr Jacobs & some other women who were at the Hague
conference are here. I wish you could see Jane Addams. It would be
worth your while to go all the way to America just to see her face,
the beautiful calm & strength of the face so deeply lined with all the
cares & sorrows of her fellow men. One who has done so much actual
practical work for her fellows. Love seems to be written on every line
of her face, & with it such balance, such strong sense of humour. I am
going to her meeting at Kingsway Hall tonight to be on the platform.
This is a large public meeting - we have had two private ones already.
I wish you were here. I am working at my thing on war. Please send
this note to Ruth Alexander because I haven’t time to write to her
this post my dear love to you both
