Dear Laddie
I hope you had a good time at your old Cambridge. I saw Adela last
week. She looks a little better but not much. She sent her love to you.
Cron says the heat has never been so awful at de Aar as it is this
summer, & there are 5,000 horses & & mules there running in the small
bit of Town veld; it is like one vast stable, all the dust is organic,
& that I would die there in two days.
The future is pretty blank to me; I just go on living from day to day.
Good bye, dear. Hope you have good news from the Cape & Ursie.
Your small sister
Rather a funny thing happened to-day. I’ve not seen or heard of Miss
for three or four ^six^ months, & to-day & the last week
have suddenly been always thinking of her wondering if she was keeping
well & feeling I must go & see her. This afternoon I started off to
see her but when I got to the foot of the hill I felt too tired to
walk up it, & turned back & took an omnibus to Piccadilli & had my tea
there at Lyons as usual. When I got in the first thing I saw was this
card from her – she must have been thinking of me just as I had of her!
It’s very curious how these things are always happening to me.
