8of! Write & tell me; & beg Alice to write. What are your plans? Where

11 I’m not suffering at all as I always do in South Africa, but I’m
12not very strong & can’t climb even the stairs without difficulty –
13otherwise I’m all right. I’ve got a lovely book by Rabindranath
14Tagore the Indian writer which I’m sending to Anna Purcell’s care
15for you. If you’ve got it already & don’t want it send it to Cron.
16But it seems to me just the book you would like.

18 If you pass de Aar any time try & stop there for a day & see Cron &
19the animals & my little house & garden. It seems so long since I saw
20them; but I ought to be only grateful. I’m here & not in the heat of
21Africa. Oh, why is my native country so deadly to me. Any other
22country suits my health better, at least any European country.
