Dear Fan

I’ve been thinking so much of you the last two day. I know it’s
been a hard time parting with the boy. One always thinks of so much
that may happen when the distance is so great. But its a great thing,
dear, to have such a lovely boy, with such a tender, beautiful heart.
I’ve just heard from Will that poor May Devenish has lost her little
one. My heart aches for her. My little girl would be sixteen years old
now, & there’s a stick in my side whenever I think of her. Perhaps I
would have been sending her over with Oliver to study. I am always
thinking of what she would be learning & doing. It’s a pain that
never passes away. I hope May will have some more.
