Dear Laddie

Adela little baby was born abo some months ago. She was very nearly
dead; it had to be forcibly removed from her a month before its time.
But wonderful to say she has recovered. The little baby is growing &
doing well & is called Olive after me & Constance is its second name
after Constance Lytton, so it forms a loving little bond between us
three. She wrote to me two days after its birth a few lines, but she
is still so ill she cannot walk or drive out. Her husband has been
unspeakably kind to me, in seeing about the arrangements with the
publishers, about my woman’s book which will be out I hope soon
after the new year: but those publishers are terrible.

I do hope you’ll get away for a real rest soon, dear. I expect the
sea is to you as the mountain tops are to me – infinite rest. Every
little bit of my body & mind seems to rest here. I’m working hard at
my book. If I keep as well as I am now I shall have made some headway
this summer. I do hope our three will do well in the exams. Ursie’s
must have begun already.

Good bye dear Laddie
