Dear Lucy, I had just written to tell you I couldn’t come on
Thursday when your note came. Perhaps on Monday I shall f be better &
able to come. How lovely it would be if you were somewhere near me & I
could come over & see you & the dear children any time.
Yours with true love.

I thought Merriman’s speech fine because they were out spoken. It
doesn’t matter ^so much^ if your views differ or agree with that of a
man, if he is only frank & out spoken, The nearer one comes to the end
^the more one seems to see that nothing matters so much as truth.^
