Dear Fan, After your wonderful promis I did expect a letter from
Maderia! Now I expect nothing, ^-^ but I hope!

I had a line from Will who said you had turned out a good sailor, &
had made many friends, so I hope you enjoyed the voyage. I hope
you’re having a grand time in London have you seen dear old Emma yet.
I’m sure you’ll love her. Do drop me a line & tell me how it goes.
You ought to write a family letter to sent to the children & then to
the sisters in Cape Town, & then to me. We are all so anxious to know
of your doing, & how you like things. What did you think of Lady
Selbourne? Have you seen Alice Corthorn? Have you seen the fireworks
at the Crystal Palace that I love so? Have you seen the East End! Go
down in a bus on Saturday night right to the end of Mile End Rd. Ach I
wish I was there to trot round with you.
