Matjesfontein
Wednesday

My dear old sister

I hope you get your glasses all right. I couldn’t anywhere find a
good box to put them in & I’m so anxious to know you got them safely.
It was so nice to see your figure walking about here, one of the
pleasant & bright memories which make me love Matjesfontein more than
any place in Africa. I have had so many happy times with my friends
here.

I glad my picture of you sitting out in the wind on your hat box did
not come true! I do hope you’ll both have a good time in Queens Town.
Guess all the folks will love my little sister! Please send me all the
reports you can get of Will’s speeches at Queenstown. I am very
anxious to know what he says. I look to him as our political leader in
the future. He is the last hope. However things may look at present
"More is ook en dag!" (Can you read my Dutch!)

I’ve just got a very long interesting letter from Sir William Butler;
with some very original & true remarks on the native question.

I posted Will’s ^letter^ & wrote to Ursula the day you left. But there
was no train to town that day with a T.P.O.

Please give my love to Mrs Naude & remember me very cordially to Sir B
Berry & to Miss Hyett if you meet her. Tell her I’ve just got a
letter from her cousin Edward Carpenter who was just starting for 6
weeks in Italy.

I’ve seen little of dear old Het she comes over at sunset for a few
minutes. She is looking wonderfully better. I think she is sure to
stay till you return. She thinks the air here wonderful. Cron was so
disappointed not to see you

Thy small sister
