Dear Laddie

I’m so glad our Bill has passed. Congratulations. I suppose you
didn’t find the report in the Queenstown paper of your speech very
correct as you didn’t send it.

That was a horrid letter in the S.A. News from the Queenstown
correspondent. But people gain nothing by these petty, small hearted
attacks.

Cron has been returned at the head at the Bond’s final gathering of
nominations Cron 190 Le Roux 179 – the others no where. But the S.A.
Party is putting up a third member, Jackson, so there’s no knowing
how things will go.

I am trying to get on with my book, but the heat in this little room
makes working slow. It is just possible I shall go away to stay with
the Smuts at Pretoria in March while the house if painted as the paint
makes me bad. I shall have to go somewhere any how. Please let me know
if you can when you will be passing back
to Queens Town, as I
shouldn’t like to miss you & will arrange my plans accordingly. It
may be I shan’t manage the Transvaal trip & shall have to stay at
Hanover while the paint dries. If I do go I’ll spend a week with the
Inneses.

Good bye dear Laddie.
Thine ever
Ol
