I am sitting alone in the new room, that wasn’t finished when you
were here. Cron has just started on a fortnight’s trip to visit his
constituents at Beaufort West & Prince Albert, & to go on to Cape Town
to see his mother. He will be there just in time to go to the
reception of President Steyn.

I am feeling very well & strong lately. We have had one tiny little
shower of rain. It has not made the bushes green but it has relieved
the tension in the air. Oh it is so good to think you are really
coming out soon. I think the Browns are coming to stay at Tamboer’s
Kloof in the same boarding house as I am if they can; perhaps if you
come out you will join us for a little time & we shall be a goodly
company.

^Did I tell you I am going to join the Democratic Federation in Cape
Town? Perhaps you would join too if you came & help us. I wonder if I
could be of any help to your young sister if she comes out. I can help
some people a good deal, & others not at all; its all just as it
happens! I feel so drawn to her. ^

^I have just got a letter from Con Lytton to tell me that Adela
Villier’s little boy is born. I’m so glad it’s a boy because she
wanted it but I’m done out of my little Olive Schreiner which was to
have been its name if it had been a girl. OS^
