Dear Friend

I got your post card from Geneva to day. I wonder if you will go to
see Clarens on the other side of the lake where I once spent a winter.
Switzerland is much more beautiful in the depth of winter than in
summer. No one who has not seen it in its mantle of snow & ice can
dream what it looks like. I think Miss Molteno will get quite strong
now.

Dear, I’ve had such a lovely time. The two Lawrences have been here
for five days, & the Purcells too! The Lawrences left yesterday for
the Victoria Falls but return here in a fortnight, & are going to take
me with them for a few days change to Cradock were I shall go & see
the little farm I love so. They are so sweet & delightful. The dear
old Purcells
are still here, but leave unreadable in four days for
Cape Town. It has been splendid to have them. They stay at another
little hotel here (the one you were in has been burnt down) & say as
do the Lawrences that they have been most comfortable. You & Miss
Molteno
would like it: it has a long row of sunny rooms quite
dis-connected with the house opening onto a verandah; so perhaps, some
day, you’ll come too. It is a bitterly cold windy day today here. We
have had a big fire this evening & Cron & the Purcells & I have been
sitting round it. I wish so much you two could be here too, though I
know its nicer in Italy. I do hope you’ll get this letter all right.
Have you heard if the PO order for Miss Molteno yet. Please make
inquiries in Cambridge
. I made it payable in Cambridge instead or
Harsden because I didn’t know if there was a post office there.
