Dear dear Friend

Thank you for your letter. I don’t need the money & won’t use it.
But oh I do look forward to seeing you & Miss Greene.

I am going in to send off another cable.

If only England would send out another man in place of Milner
something might be done to save the situation yet.

I‘ve heard from what seems a good source, from a soldier from one
who ought to know, that the Kimberley mines were largely blown up on
the 9th & that Kimberley was likely to fall. If it till you hear this
confirmed don’t let poor Mrs Stratton hear it, or mention it to
anyone as it may be false.

Everyone talks as if it was all so hopeless but I still feel hope.

Yours ever & ever
Olive

I don’t have asthma here but keep getting curious fits of faintness.
We shall be here at my brother’s till the end of February. After
that I don’t know. Don’t I hope if you take a cottage it won’t
be at Kalk Bay (selfishly) because I can never go there. But it is
very hard to get a house anywhere now. The future is all lost in the
present.
