Dearest May

I feel you were quite right not to go. Don’t trouble your dear heart
about it. I’m sure it was right.

Do you know if Barkly ever writes to Betty? I nearly wrote to ask him
to write a little letter of sympathy to her, but I don’t know his
address & I didn’t like to – you could it it do it much better. A
letter from him would be such a treasure to her. Nothing but love can
help one in such times

I got a lovely letter from dear Lucy (your uncle Charles’s wife)
today. Oh how my heart longs to see them all in South Africa.

Good bye, dear. Love to you both. When I can’t lie down at night I
think of Freddie.
