My darling Betty

You are going through deep waters & I can do nothing to help you, but,
oh, how I have you in my heart all the time. I hope the doctor sees
our dear one often, & gives her something to help when the pain is bad.
I seem to see her always looking so beautiful as she did on the sofa
in Eva’s flat. Dear Eva sent me a beautiful pot of real flowers
today. I had such a craving ^yesterday^ for something beautiful
something living, that I went yesterday & asked the price of pots of
flowers at the shop at the corner. But they were too dear, & now I
have got this lovely pot.

Dear whatever happens try to get out everyday for a real walk; I know
how much it means to you. I wonder if you can go a nice walk along the
cliffs – or if you are too far from the sea. I think I told you Anna
Purcell
had seen Margaret & thought her so fine & beautiful. I wish
for your sake Margaret was here.
