I have been so utterly grieved to hear you have had to undergo an
operation. No one has told me just what it was, but from something
Anna said some time ago I fear it may be appendicitis. I’m so
thankful to hear from Miss Greene its over, & that I may hope to hear
from someone next week that you were able to go home again you dear
frail body is so ill fitted for such terrible suffering. All I can
hope is it will have done some permanent good.

I am longing for the post to come tomorrow that I may have more news
of you.

I am so much better since I came back to London that I don’t know
myself I am taking Urodonal a day which is doing me great good.

It is very nice to see my old friends again

^all so loving & so kind. But I never forget my beloved friends at the
Cape. My heart seems to cling to you more & more.^

Good bye dear.
