We had a great surprise this morning when three railway men came to
Crons office, & to asked him if he would consent to sit on the Railway
commission. It was not suggested by the de Aar men but by letters from
Cape Town & Transvaal. But I doubt whether he will get in as the
government would prefer Krouse & whatever they say great pressure will
be brought to bear by the authorities! I’m sorry dear old Patrick
Duncan
isn’t standing. Of course there was nothing for it but for
him to throw it up after the government acted in that way. PD is one
of the salt of earth.
