Dear Bettie & Alice

I wish so much you would go to see my friend Mrs Alexander. She she is
at Kimberley Villa Muizenberg. When you leave the station at
Muizenberg & walk towards St James you soon come to a white double
story house next to the church this side of Ab Bailey’s. She’s a
splendid little little woman. I’d feel it a gift to me if you went.
She has three tiny children, two darling little girls whom Alice will
love & a new-born little son now four weeks old.

I am sending you that French man’s article. Will send you his letter
in the papers as soon as I can find it. I feel you, Alice ought to go
among the natives. Live there quietly for some months & print what you
see. Your letters will be carefully filed by me. Then you come to de
Aar & revise them. If it would be any help I would write a little
preface just saying who you are, & the importance of the matter.
Des-cribing native South African life simply & straight which has
never yet been done. Don’t say no dear. Bettie can flie in upon you
now & then & upon me at De Aar, be with all the darling children & the
dear relatives at Cape Town, & make us all joyful wherever she goes. I
am sure if you look at it carefully you will see there is no use in
your just hanging round about Cape Town. We’ve had tremendous cold
here.

My dear love to you both
Olive

^Cron starts for the Victoria Falls on Sunday. I enclose you the note I
got from Ruth Alexander this morning just to show you what she’s
like. Return it. Alexander is a great upholder of the natives in
parliament. He’s not very polished, but he’s a good hearted fellow,
& very talented.^
