I’ve just got my English mail with a line from Will from Maderea & a
letter from old John X & one from Anna Purcell. Anna says Walter her
little boy of 12 is so devoted to Will he follows him about everywhere
on board, & can’t say enough about Ursula & Oliver, & old John X is
quite enthusiastic about my "very nice nephew & niece" so they seem a
happy party.

Mrs Purcell tells me Joey Faure is engaged to Mr Smuts who manages
Bergvliet Estate. Did you know it before? He’s such a fine young
fellow: Have you met him.

We are having a great hail & thunderstorm here tonight. My little cat
has never heard a thunder storm before & she is awfully excited,
staring up at the roof each time a peel comes!

When does Will return?

I see descriptions of your & Dots dresses in the African news, I
wonder if Miss de ?Merit writes them!

Good night, dear old sister thine ever
