My dear Fan

I saw the old man for about two minutes the other day. He looked
better than when I saw him last.

Did you read the Convert by Elizabeth Robins? Did you like it. Mrs
Brown
says she would like to give a copy to every woman & to every man,
& some women don’t seem to care for it at all. Did you go to the
Meeting on the 2nd when Emily Hobhouse spoke?

// We have had a terrible blow. Three days ago we heard that Cron’s
mother has cancer of the breast, she is to be operated on on Monday.
Cron leaves tonight to go down & be there for the operation. I don’t
think, Fan, the dear old lady will come through. It does seem terrible
at the end of a long life to have this awful suffering. Don’t
mention about its being cancer as they’re trying to keep the
knowledge from her ^of what her disease really is,^ but I ^’m^ sure she
knows.

How does Julie Joubert like England? Write me a nice real letter,
darling.

The Browns are very happy in Natal. Send Dot’s latest news. I never
hear anything of her except by chance.

Good bye, love to all.

^Cron will be staying at Alfred Cronwrights. He thinks to leave again
after the operation on Monday evening, but may not be able to.^
