6 I saw the old man for about two minutes the other day. He looked
7better than when I saw him last.

9 Did you read the Convert by Elizabeth Robins? Did you like it. Mrs
10Brown says she would like to give a copy to every woman & to every man,
11 & some women don’t seem to care for it at all. Did you go to the
12Meeting on the 2nd when Emily Hobhouse spoke?

14 // We have had a terrible blow. Three days ago we heard that Cron’s
15mother has cancer of the breast, she is to be operated on on Monday.
16Cron leaves tonight to go down & be there for the operation. I don’t
17think, Fan, the dear old lady will come through. It does seem terrible
18at the end of a long life to have this awful suffering. Don’t
19mention about its being cancer as they’re trying to keep the
20knowledge from her ^of what her disease really is,^ but I ^’m^ sure she
21knows.
