Legend
The Project is grateful to the National Library of South Africa (NLSA), Cape Town, for kindly allowing us to transcribe this Olive Schreiner postcard, which is part of its Special Collections. The date of this postcard is provided by the postmark, although this is not fully legible, and the address it was sent to is on its front. Schreiner was resident at Porchester Place from early April 1917 until August 1920, when she left Britain for South Africa.
1 I long for just a line from you Ruth, my darling child. I wrote to you
2but the letter was in the ship that was lost. Do tell me about
3yourself. I wish I were near you. The cold dark winter is beginning to
4close in about us.
