3 My dear Mary,
5 You don't write me nice letters & tell me all about yourself any more.
6I long to see you so, but I'd better get this bit of work done first
7because if you came just now I'd have to sit writing & I want to be
8with you & the children all the time when you come.
10 I'm well & happy & have no news of give of myself. We'll hire Mr
cart & go away for whole days in the velt when you come. March
12& April are the best months.
14 I'm longing so to see my big nephew.

22 Will you send back Ed: Carpenter's letter, I haven't answered it. Did
23you order the dress from England? Do you think you might perhaps be
24able to go with us to Kimberley. Captain & Mrs Marriot are going to
25join Wilfred & myself at Nel's Port, & we are going to have three days
26in Kimberley together. We'd be such a lovely party. They are both most
27delightful. She was ^married the other day in Cape Town at the
30 ^Did you ever fetch the Kanna-doeds from my brothers???^
Rive's (1987) version omits part of this letter and is also in a number of respects incorrect.
